Alcohol is a fast acting and potent anxiolytic. Like all such substances, withdrawal from it for even a short time causes a rebound effect: anxiety.

The rebound effect alone is reason enough to eliminate or drastically reduce using it.

What if you walked into a bar and they asked you if wanted a double Ativan or something similar? What if you hit that again and then another time?

In short time you would be climbing the walls.

But drinking and drugging is a lot cheaper than providing interpersonal psychotherapy to people after work.

It is not all about economics, but some.
