Fact is, some people care greatly about you and some don’t. Your mom does; your brother does; some of your friends do.

But people regularly overestimate the amount of concern or thinking time spent by someone else about you.

When you say something that you wish you hadn’t or you do something that you were embarrassed to do, the fact is that most of those things evaporate. Often they are not even remembered.

This fact should be of some consolation, and if thoughts or obsessions about those things bother you, it is good to know that others assign much less significance to them than you do.

Most mistakes can be corrected. Most delicts are forgiven. The point is to go forward and try to do better. It is the more recent behavior that will be remembered most. And that is a hopeful thing.
