Great story.

Not sure that not knowing something about yourself when you get married means the marriage is a mistake, even if you learn something about yourself later. Sometimes marriages fizzle for a lot or reasons. Sometimes we change during that time. If you had some very good times and years while married, then it wasn’t all bad and it wasn’t necessarily a mistake.

Our needs change over time and if they are not met, we indulge them in other ways, some of them maladaptive. It is great if we are with someone who can adapt to our needs but if we are not, it was not necessarily a mistake to have married that person in the first place. At the time, it may have been the best we could do. It is all about timing, as you say.

Inspiring story.
