I like the article. I like your writing style and the metaphors you use ("sinuosly...", e.g.)

You felt you had to be the Bogie in the relationship. You had to make the tough decision for both of you.

That said, I'm not at all sure that this was someone you could never love or that if he had proceeded differently, the outcome might not have been different.
