I think it is a mental energy thing, that is, if your brain is consuming more energy, for any reason, than it needs to process ordinary events, it may react with an attack.
If that is the case, it is not so much about triggers as it is about total supply versus demand.
If the bucket is leaking more than it is being filled, the result will be the reaction.
This is the only way to account for the common feature of anxiety attacks, their seeming to come out of nowhere.
A brain in energy debt is in search of a trigger, and almost anything will suffice.
